Peter Berg, MDiv, RP (Qualifying) Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Individuals (16+)

Sometimes the very strategies that once helped you survive start to feel like they’re holding you back. You may notice repeating patterns in relationships, emotional reactions that feel bigger than the moment, or behaviours you wish you could change, yet they seem to happen automatically.

Peter works with individuals who feel caught in these cycles. His focus is on slowing things down so we can understand what the pattern is protecting. Often, beneath anxiety, anger, shame, or conflict are deeper fears, such as fear of abandonment, not being enough, or grief for what should have been.

Peter’s approach is grounded in Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). He also integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and Transference-Focused Therapy (TFP), tailoring each session to the individual. Therapy with Peter is steady, thoughtful, and emotionally attuned. Together, you will explore difficult emotions at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

Over time, clients often experience greater emotional regulation, a clearer sense of self, and more freedom in their relationships. The goal is not to eliminate emotion, but to build the capacity to face it and move through it with confidence.

Peter holds a Master of Divinity and a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Tyndale University. He has provided psychotherapy at the Tyndale Wellness Centre and The Well Counselling and Recovery Services. Prior to becoming a therapist, he spent nine years as a direct support professional in group home and assisted living settings. His background in philosophy and long-standing interest in the roots of psychotherapy inform his reflective and meaning-oriented style.

Approach: Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Transference-Focused Therapy (TFP)

Areas of support: Anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, family of origin concerns, relationship conflict and infidelity, childhood trauma, loneliness, shame, anger, physical health struggles, spirituality, and patterns of behaviour that feel difficult to change.
